The renovated Weber County Sports Complex and the Robert L. and Annette Marquardt Field House, located west of the Dee Events Center at Weber State University, opened in the fall of 2013. The complex provides Weber State with an indoor practice facility for multiple sports.
A 73,000 square-foot expansion to the former Weber County Ice Sheet, the Marquardt Field House brings community members, students, athletes and sports fans together underneath one roof. The two-story addition includes a new NHL-size ice rink and training and locker rooms on the ground floor.
On the upper floor of the Field House is a 60-yard indoor practice field, known as the George S. Eccles Field. The synthetic turf field is marked to accommodate football, soccer and softball. In addition, the facility also includes a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning complex, which accommodates athletes from multiple WSU sports. The complex also includes an additional exercise room overlooking the field.
Weber State University and Weber County shared the cost of the $9.2 million remodel. WSU provided $3.4 million for the construction of this project with approximately 80 percent coming from donors, including the Robert and Annette Marquardt family, the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and former WSU football athlete and alumnus Roger Trinchero. Weber County, in conjunction with WSU, received a $2 million grant from Weber County RAMP to bring this new recreation facility to the community.
